Courtesy is the First Rule of Magic
All who enter the Magic Castle – Members, guests, performers, and staff alike – are expected to conduct themselves with unfailing civility, kindness, and respect.
Honor the Stewardship of the House
The guidance of the Magic Castle staff represents the authority of the House and is to be received promptly, graciously, and without dispute.
Carry Yourself with Dignity and Self-Command
Enjoyment is encouraged; excess is not. Guests are expected to remain composed and considerate, regardless of refreshment.
Dress as the Environment Deserves
The Magic Castle is an occasion. Proper attire, befitting the traditions of the House, is required throughout the night.
Attend to the Art with Full Regard
During performances, guests are asked to offer their respectful and enthusiastic attention – free from conversation, devices, or distraction – so that wonder may properly unfold.
Preserve the Mysteries Entrusted to You
The details of your experience at the House, and, indeed, secrets, backstage discoveries, and private workings of the Magic Castle are to be respected and never revealed to the outside world.
Respect the Boundaries of People and Places
Enter only those spaces to which you are invited and treat all private areas, persons, and possessions with due regard.
Safeguard the House and All Within It
The Magic Castle, its contents, and its people are to be treated with care. Harassment, discrimination, or damage of any kind has no place here.
Members Shall Host Their Guests as Reflections of Themselves
Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests, who are expected to uphold the same standards of behavior as their hosts for the dignity of the House.
When Uncertain, Choose Grace
The Magic Castle exists to elevate the art of magic. In all matters of conduct, let your choices add to the atmosphere of wonder, rather than diminish it.
By crossing the threshold, all who enter the Magic Castle agree to uphold these customs of the House. Those who exhibit conduct that falls short of the expectations set by the House Rules may be courteously asked to take their leave.
